EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION PROGRAMME (ECEP)

This programme aims to provide holistic support and education to all Pebbles beneficiaries from conception to age five. It is divided into two age cohorts – 3 months to 2.5 years and 2.5 to 5 years.

This programme is divided into two sub programmes. 

Namely the First Thousand Days programme (FTD) which provides daily stimulation and development of children aged 3 months to 2.5 years through play. 

The Early Childhood Development programme (ECD) aims to develop children aged 2.5 to 5 years holistically through the carefully constructed Pebbles ECD curriculum. 

Education takes place at the Pebbles Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres located on individual partner farms. The programme runs daily from 07:00 – 17:00 (depending on individual farm needs). Having access to quality early education in a safe and loving environment ensures that all Pebbles beneficiaries have a solid foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.

LEARNER ENRICHMENT EDUCATION PROGRAMME (LEEP)

The Learner Enrichment Education Programme (LEEP) has four age cohorts. This links to the four phases as defined within the educational system of South Africa (The Department of Basic Education) and are also divided into two sub programmes. 

•         Foundation Phase – Gr R to Gr 3 (6 to 9 years)
•         Intermediate Phase – Gr 4 to Gr 6 (10 to 12 years)
•         Senior Phase – Gr 7 to Gr 9 (13 to 15 years)
•         FET Phase – Gr 10 to Gr 12 (16 to 18 years)

SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME (SEP)

The School Enrichment Programme (SEP) provides educational support to school-going children between the ages of 6 and 18 years. It is implemented at the Pebbles After-School Clubs which are located on individual partner farms and runs daily from 14:00 – 17:00. The aim is to provide a safe space for children to receive academic support when they return from school each day while their parents are still at work.

PRIMARY EDUCATION PROGRAMME (PEP)

The Pebbles Project Primary Education Programme (PEP) provides access to quality primary education to learners 6 to 13 years of age, in order for them to reach their full academic potential. This currently takes place at the Pebbles Academy in the Hemel-en-Aarde (Hermanus). Our dream is to establish Pebbles Academies across all our locations.

Practitioner Training  

The Pebbles practitioners receive bi-monthly training, as well as weekly on-site support from the Pebbles Support Teachers to ensure they are able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at training. The majority of our practitioners live in the communities we service.

Special Educational Needs Mobile Resource Centre

This vehicle and initiative is managed by the Pebbles team of Occupational Therapists. The vehicle acts as a resource library on wheels and travels to the different educational centres on a rotational basis. It is filled with educational resources to assist learners who need extra support.

Special Educational Needs

The Pebbles Occupational Therapists ensure multi-disciplinary interventions take place for children who present with developmental concerns and barriers to learning. This takes place within the organisation as well as sourcing external service providers in the private and government sectors. 

Educational Outings

Whenever budget allows or establishments offer activities free of charge, we aim to broaden the life and educational experiences of the children by planning fun educational outings.  Previous outings included a trip up Table Mountain, visits to the Two Oceans Aquarium, a boat trip, and watching a rugby match at Newlands Stadium.

Maths and Literacy

The mathematics and literacy support programmes were established to assist the After-School Club learners with these important subjects and concepts. The team follow specific programmes designed to grow knowledge and understanding in maths and literacy, in a way that complements the current South African school curriculum. Progress is monitored through continuous assessment and we evaluate achievement through school results.

Mobile Computer Literacy

Computer literacy is essential to survive and thrive in a digital world. Through the FACET Mobile Computer Library, children learn practical and technical skills that allow them to complete school assignments and become more familiar with a digital environment. Other academic subjects such as maths are integrated with the computers and tablets. We have also included logical games on the devices that stimulate the skill of coding.

Mobile Book and DVD Library

Children develop literacy skills through reading and having unlimited access to books. The FACET Mobile Library gives the children access to books and works like a traditional library, just on wheels! It also encourages family togetherness and entertainment through a selection of DVDs and games.
