Kitchen Manager

The Pebbles Project Trust is a registered NPO that supports children, families and communities on the wine farms in and around Stellenbosch and Wellington, Citrusdal and in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.  The work of Pebbles consists of 5 main pillars: Education, Health, Nutrition, Protection and Community.

The Pebbles Project seeks to employ a Kitchen Manager who forms part of the Pebbles Kitchen based at Joostenberg Farm, Junction R301 & N1.

The Pebbles Kitchen is a new Social Enterprise food production facility being developed outside Stellenbosch. The facility will produce cooked meals for the Pebbles children, and then grow to supply other organisations. These meals will be sold to help cover the running costs of the facility, but not for the generation of profit.

The Kitchen manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Kitchen, the staff, the meal planning & production and the stock control to ensure gross margins are achieved.

The role is Monday-Friday, daytime only, so no late evenings or weekends.

Should demand grow to require additional shifts, these must be accommodated.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Love of food and creating clever recipes for the production of great value, healthy meals.
  • A passion for the wellbeing of children through the provision of a balanced diet.
  • A bubbly, ‘can-do’ attitude with a determined and hardworking nature.
  • 5-years’ experience in a senior role within a commercial kitchen as either kitchen manager, production manager or head chef.
  • Good Computer skills, with competency in excel, word and stock management systems.
  • Stock control understanding and experience.
  • Production planning and basic logistics.
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport
  • Excellent people skills and basic HR experience.
DUTIES:
  • Production Planning, Stock Management & Cost Control
    • Management of stock to ensure daily production is achieved
    • Portion control to manage margins
    • Stock counting and management of ‘free donations’
    • Counting and recording of all incoming stock and stock on hand.
  • Staff Management & Development
    • Ensure staff efficiency delivers the daily, weekly and monthly production targets
    • Manage conflict resolution and disciplinary processes
    • Training and talent development
  • Health & Safety Management
    • Responsibility for the Health & Safety Plan, File and Compliance.
    • Completion of all daily, weekly and monthly checks and recording of such.
    • Communication of any potential hazards to ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Communication & Administration
    • To ensure our customers (beneficiaries) are happy with their meals & service and to create corrective action plans for approval where required.
    • Monthly reporting to The Programme Manager with sales, costs and margin reports.
    • Inputting of supplier invoices into stock management system.

Educational Support Teacher

The Pebbles Project Trust is a registered NPO that supports children, families and communities on the wine farms in and around Stellenbosch and Wellington, Citrusdal and in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.  The work of Pebbles consists of 5 main pillars: Education, Health, Nutrition, Protection and Community.

The Pebbles Project seeks to employ an Educational Support Teacher based in Citrusdal.   This is a full day position (08h00-17h00), 5 days a week. This is a one-year contract dependent on funding.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • “On-site” teaching in a collection of ECD and / or After-School Club centres
  • Administration and purchasing
  • Assistance with the Pebbles Project special needs educational programme
  • Ensuring the effective implementation of the Pebbles Project ECD and / or After-School Club Programmes
  • Assistance with the development of the Pebbles Project ECD and / or After-School Club Programmes
  • Assistance with the assessment and monitoring of the Pebbles Project ECD and / or ASC Programmes
  • Training of the ECD and / or After-School Club staff

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Teaching Degree or Diploma with 3-5 years’ relevant experience
  • Clean driving license and own vehicle
  • Fluent written / spoken English and Afrikaans
  • Excellent computer, administration and organisational skills

ECD & ASC SEN Support Teacher

The Pebbles Project Trust is a registered NPO that supports children, families and communities on the wine farms in and around Stellenbosch, Wellington, Citrusdal and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.  The work of Pebbles consists of 5 main pillars: Education, Health, Nutrition, Protection and Environment.

The Pebbles Project seeks to employ an Early Childhood Development (ECD) and After-School Club (ASC) Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support Teacher based in Citrusdal.   This is a full day position (08h00-17h00), 5 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assistance with the management of the ECD and ASC Special Needs Programme
  • Assist with the planning and presentation of training sessions on a range of topics, when requested, for group training sessions for the ECD and ASC staff
  • Assistance with the monitoring and evaluation of the Special Needs Programme
  • To provide one-on-one or group SEN sessions to learners with special needs
  • To conduct annual assessments of learners and put together an individual educational support plan for learners in the SEN programme

FACET Mobile Learning Centre Coordinator

The Pebbles Project Trust seeks to employ a FACET Mobile Learning Centre Coordinator based in Citrusdal. The Mobile Learning Centre Coordinator will be responsible for managing one of our FACET Mobile Computer learning centres, as part of our Mobile Library & Computer Programmes, as well as our Mobile Toy Library Programme.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (AMONG OTHERS):

  1. COORDINATION OF THE FACET MOBILE LEARNING CENTRE AND RESOURCES
  • To carry out an initial assessment with the centres where the Mobile Learning Centre will be operating in order to ascertain the needs for the programme (books, games, DVDs).
  • Participating in the setting up of systems/procedures for managing the mobile learning centre: basic equipment, computer systems, itemising and creating inventories for equipment and relevant paperwork.
  • Purchasing all computer equipment and software for the programme, under the directions of the FACET After-School Club Manager, according to budget and maintain software and equipment in good, clean, working order.
  • Purchasing all books, games and DVDs for the programme, under the direction of the FACET After-School Club Manager, according to budget and maintain games, books and DVDs in good, clean, working order.
  • Visiting After-School Clubs on a regular basis to provide access for the children at these centres.
  • Presenting computer literacy lessons and sourcing relevant/suitable computer programmes for children (age range 7-18 years).
  • Present computer literacy lessons for adults/parents on the farms that Pebbles work on.
  • To distribute age- appropriate literature to children and parents and to ensure that all games, books and DVDs are returned in good and complete order, and to contact parents if this is not the case.
  • To set up a fine system for those books, games and DVDs that are lost or damaged.
  • To arrange for the repair or maintenance of games and books as required.
  • Managing the FACET Mobile Learning Centre budget.
  • Liaising with other organisations involved with mobile computer / library programmes and to stay abreast of new legislation, guidelines and recommendations.
  1. COORDINATION OF THE CITRUSDAL MOBILE COMPUTER PROGRAMME VEHICLE
  • To oversee the maintenance of the FACET Mobile Learning Centre, under the direction of the FACET After-School Club Programme Manager, to ensure the vehicle is kept in good working order, arrange services, repairs, maintenance, as well as filling up the vehicle.
  • To inform the FACET After-School Club Manager immediately of any damage to the vehicle, in order for the FACET After-School Club Manager to make the necessary arrangements with the insurance.
  • To arrange for the repair or maintenance of equipment and software as required.
  1. TRAINING
  • To train the ASC children on the use of the computers and educational resources that are placed in the Mobile Learning Centre and facilities.
  • To offer ASC staff training regarding acceptable use of the Mobile Learning Centre facilities and equipment.
  • To provide reading sessions and literacy support to the learners who access the Mobile Learning Centre.
  • To provide basic computer literacy training to ASC and ECD staff.
  • To train all staff regarding the Mobile Learning Centre, its role and purpose in the organisation.
  • To train the parents, staff and children on the use of the games that are placed in the Learning Centre.
  • To train the parents about the Mobile Learning Centre, it’s role and purpose in the education of their child.
  1. IT SUPPORT TO THE PEBBLES PROJECT ASC CENTRES
  • To assist the ASC centres with troubleshooting IT issues, as well as the repair and maintenance of the computer equipment.
  • To provide on-site technical support or via phone/email.
  1. MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF THE MOBILE LEARNING CENTRE
  • To assist with the monitoring and evaluation of the Mobile Learning Centre, should it be required.
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of learners’ assignments.
  • To assess learners’ progress, strengths and needs in terms of computer literacy.
  • Assist with maintaining weekly records of learners, i.e. attendance register.

  • A University degree in Education or Library Management
  • 3-5 years’ teaching experience essential (preferably computer literacy related subjects)
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of office software packages.
  • Be fluent in Afrikaans and English
  • Be fully computer literate
  • Have clean driving licence and own car
  • Must be prepared to obtain a Code 10 driver’s license.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of our great team
  • Be able to work flexible hours, some weekends and evenings occasionally
  • Attention to detail, plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines to successfully deliver a diversity of objectives and demands.
  • Available 5 days per week from 9:00-18:00.

Oral Hygienist

The Pebbles Project Trust seeks to employ an Oral Hygienist to be based at our OWETHU clinic in Stellenbosch. This is a one-year renewable contract based on funding and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (AMONG OTHERS):

  • Assessing patients
  • Dental hygiene diagnosis
  • Treatment plan and Monitoring patients

  • Use of Dental Technology, Dental Health Maintenance, Infection Control, Health promotion and Maintenance, Administering Medications and thoroughness.
  • Fluency in both Afrikaans and English preferable

  • Available to work 08:00-17:00, 3 days per week.
