EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT TEACHER

The Pebbles Project Trust is a registered NPO that supports children, families and communities on the wine farms in and around Stellenbosch and Wellington, Citrusdal and in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.  The work of Pebbles consists of 5 main pillars: education, health, nutrition, protection and community.

The Pebbles Project seeks to employ an Educational Support Teacher based in Citrusdal.   This is a full day position (08h00-17h00), 5 days a week. This is a one-year contract dependent on funding.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • “On-site” teaching in a collection of ECD and After-School Club centres
  • Administration and purchasing
  • Assistance with the Pebbles Project special needs educational programme
  • Ensuring the effective implementation of the Pebbles Project ECD and After-School Club Programmes
  • Assistance with the development of the Pebbles Project ECD and After-School Club Programmes
  • Assistance with the assessment and monitoring of the Pebbles Project ECD and ASC Programmes
  • Training of the ECD and After-School Club staff

 
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Teaching Degree or Diploma with 3-5 years’ relevant experience
  • Clean driving license and own vehicle
  • Fluent written / spoken English and Afrikaans
  • Excellent computer, administration and organisational skills

FACET ASC PROGRAMME MANAGER

The Pebbles Project Trust is a registered NPO that supports children, families and communities on the wine farms in and around Stellenbosch, Wellington, Citrusdal and Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. The work of Pebbles consists of 5 main pillars: education, health, nutrition, protection and community.

The Pebbles Project Trust seeks to employ an After-School Club (ASC) Programme Manager based in Stellenbosch. The ASC Manager will be responsible for the overall management, monitoring and evaluating of the FACET (For Africa’s Children Every Time) ASC Programme, in addition to overseeing the ASC team.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (AMONG OTHERS):

  1. Overall responsibility for the development and delivery of the ASC Programme
  • Take overall responsibility for the development of the ASC programme.
  • Take overall responsibility for the development of the life skills programme, by directing and overseeing the FACET ASC Support teachers, learners and facilitators.
  • Take overall responsibility for the development of the study skills programme, by directing and overseeing the FACET ASC Support teachers
  • Take overall responsibility for the farm incentives, ambassadors and community service
  • Take overall responsibility for, and to develop, the Critical Skills Development programme.
  • Take overall responsibility for the art and sport programme; to liaise with the sport and art programme coordinators to ensure that the quality of the programmes is of a suitable standard. To meet with the art and sport programme coordinators and to set quarterly programme implementation schedules.
  • To regularly conduct research on other ASC programmes in order to stay abreast of the latest ASC curriculum trends and to adapt the Pebbles Programme, should it be necessary and shared Game Changers with the Mobile Computer Programme Manager. This will include attending all relevant government as well as other ASC stakeholder meetings.
  • To develop a strategic plan under the direction of the General Manager to ensure that the ASC programme meets all the desired goals and outcomes.
  • To develop monitoring and evaluation tools to track the success of the programme.
  • To take overall responsibility for the ASC programme registration, should this become a requirement in the future.
  • To attend all Department of Social Development meetings related to ASC matters on behalf of the Pebbles Project.
  1. Overall responsibility for the training of the ASC staff
  • To plan and organise the monthly ASC staff training sessions, with the assistance of the ASC tutors, CCM’s (Community Cluster Manager), ASC Support teachers, ASC SEN (Special Educational Needs) Manager and Social Workers.
  • To ensure that all the ASC staff are properly trained on the ASC programme; in order for them to successfully present the lessons in the ASC’s.
  • To put together a monthly training schedule on the ASC programme, including additional topics that are relevant to ASC teaching; as well as the ASC staff’s personal development.
  • To conduct regular feedback sessions with the ASC staff on the training as well as the Pebbles support staff; to ensure that the training is relevant and that on-site training and support is sufficient and effective.
  1. Management of FACET Maths and Literacy tutors
  • To manage and oversee the FACET Maths and Literacy tutors.
  • To manage and oversee the FACET Maths and Literacy programmes.
  • To schedule and coordinate the visits of the tutors to those ASC facilities supported by Pebbles Project, on a quarterly basis.
  • To create a tracking system to ensure that all tutors adhere to their monthly schedules and time sheets.
  • To meet on a weekly basis with the tutors to ensure that they meet their assigned goals and deadlines, and to assist with any other problems they might have.
  • To arrange weekly meetings with the tutors and the CCM’s, so that the CCM’s can be informed of any issues in the After-School Clubs that are relevant to their work.
  • Responsible for equipment i.e tablets, e-beam and projector etc.
  1. Management of the FACET ASC support teachers
  • To manage and oversee the FACET ASC support teachers.
  • To manage and oversee the ASC life skills and study skills programmes.
  • To schedule and coordinate the visits of the teachers to those ASC club facilities supported by Pebbles Project, on a quarterly basis.
  • To create a tracking system to ensure that all support teachers adhere to their monthly schedules.
  • To meet on a weekly basis with the ASC support teachers to ensure that they meet their assigned goals and deadlines, and to assist with any other problems they might have.
  • To arrange weekly meetings with the support teachers and the Pebbles CCM’s, so that the CCM’s can be informed of any issues in the After-School Clubs that are relevant to their work.
  1. Overall responsibility for the FACET ASC mobile support teacher’s buses
  • To create a quarterly bus schedule for the FACET ASC support teacher’s buses.
  • To ensure that this schedule is effective by coordinating visits in such a way, that most of the support teachers can use the bus as transport to centres in the afternoons; in order to reduce fuel costs.
  • To take overall responsibility for the FACET support teacher bus. To ensure that the vehicle is kept in good working order by arranging timely services, repairs and maintenance.  This will include all the equipment, purchasing and insurance that have been assigned to the bus.
  • To organise weekly meetings with the support teachers and the CCM’s, to ensure that the CCM’s are updated on any issues related to the running of the facilities.
  1. Budget management
  • To manage the FACET maths and literacy budget.
  • To manage the FACET ASC support teacher and bus budget.
  • To manage the ASC Critical Skills, homework and ASC training budgets.
  • To manage the ASC educational resource budget.
  1. Educational resources
  • To take overall responsibility for all the educational resources that are placed in the ASC club facilities as well as any other FACET educational resources.
  • Set up monthly resource meetings with the CCM’s, to keep them updated on any issues with the resources.
  • To take overall responsibility to report theft from facilities, as well as any continuous loss of resources at certain facilities.
  • The Financial Manager will be responsible for overseeing the ASC facility inventories that need to be created and updated by the support teachers. Inform the Financial Manager when inventory checks are due (every six months, before a centre closes down, when staff resign).
  • To develop and implement strategies to effectively manage these resources resulting in limited damage and losses.
  • To report any losses or damages directly to the General Manager, CCM’s and the Financial Manager.
  1. Monitoring and evaluation of the ASC Programme
  • To take overall responsibility for ensuring that the ASC support teachers collect all the report cards and attendance registers and file accordingly.
  • To use the report cards in order to track whether the programme has the required impact for Maths and Literacy.
  • To oversee the quarterly testing of learners and to collate the information in order to track the progress made by learners for NAPS which includes their reading levels.
  1. Administration
  • To provide input for the Pebbles Project newsletters, when required.
  • To complete all other reports as requested by the General Manager.
  • To compile the monthly report for the ASC programme, to be submitted to the Director.
  • To take overall responsibility for putting together the FACET programme schedule. To put together monthly schedules and to liaise with the various FACET programme managers, to see if any changes to the schedule is needed. The schedule needs to be sent out to the CCM’s for review and approval, before it is circulated amongst the staff and the facilities.
  • To contribute to monthly farm reports.
  • To provide non-financial data for the Department of Social Development report on a quarterly basis. To timeously inform the General Manager if the ASC learner numbers get close to dropping below the DSD TPA threshold, in order to rectify the situation.
  1. Team support
  • Do all tasks according to the agreed targets regarding time, quantity and quality.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities and instructions are understood and clear up any misunderstandings before the task commences.
  • Co-operate and help colleagues in their duties where necessary and possible.
  • Always be willing to follow any instruction as a contribution to the productivity of Pebbles Project.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Education.
  • 5 years Teaching Experience
  • Previous experience in programme/project and team management.
  • Fluent in both Afrikaans and English.
  • Valid driving licence and own reliable transport.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of our great team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (some weekends and evenings occasionally).
  • Attention to detail, ability to plan and prioritise work, meeting deadlines to successfully deliver range of programme outcomes/deliverables.
  • Available 5 days per week from 9:00-18:00.
